Mister Indy 500 Teams Up with the DD Foundation to Benefit Riley Hospital

Andy Granatelli Knows Dave DusickIndianapolis, IN (May 17, 2012) – They call him “Mister Indy 500”; his name is Andy Granatelli. There are few men that epitomize the passion for motorsports like Mister Indy 500. He’s famous for a lot of things; but the bottom line is that if you’ve been around Indy in the past sixty years, you know the name Andy Granatelli.

They call him “Double D”; his name is Dave Dusick. There are few men that epitomize the passion for motorsports like Double D. He’s infamous for a lot of things; but the bottom line is that if you know Dave Dusick, you know that motorsports is his life and that Indy is the heart of it.

Andy Granatelli is “old school”. He started in a shop with his brothers and built an empire that lead to an Indy 500 win with Mario Andretti in 1969. Since then, he served as the CEO of the STP corporation and developed the famous bond between STP and the legendary Richard Petty.

Dave Dusick is “home school”. He’s one-of-a-kind; he beat cancer at the age of three and set his sights on building a life for himself in the motorsports industry. At the age of thirty-five, he claims thirty years of experience in the industry he loves, including seventeen at The Greatest Race Course in the World, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Now, the two motorsports enthusiasts are coming together for a good cause; supporting the Riley Hospital for Children. With the help of his peers, Dusick operates the Dave Dusick Foundation; an endeavor that benefits current and future families that have a child who suffers from a life-threatening childhood illness. Granatelli is a supporter of the DD Foundation and has developed a special promotion in coordination with the Month of May in Indianapolis.

The idea that Andy Granatelli and Dave Dusick would be friends just makes sense. According to Mister Indy 500; “It was love at first sight.”

“From the first time I met Dave, I knew that he was not only a true genius, but a very special young man who is beautiful inside and out.” commented the Indy legend.

This first meeting came on Carb Day in 2007 on the 2nd Floor of the iconic Indy Pagoda, where Dusick is the operator of the IMS Race Control Camera system. On this day, he was tabbed with providing a tour of the operation to Mister Indy 500 and his entourage.

For Dusick, it was a different feeling; “I was scared to death. This is Andy Granatelli; he’s a legend, but once you get to know him, he is an amazing man. He truly inspires me on every level.” continued Dusick.

Their relationship continued annually for years on Carb Day until Granatelli learned of Dusick’s philanthropic efforts. Following the 2011 Indy 500, Mr. Granatelli became the first major contributor to the Dave Dusick Foundation. His donation allowed for a mass purchase of the signature “I KNOW DAVE DUSICK” t-shirts.

ANDY GRANATELLI KNOWS DAVE DUSICKAs part of his efforts to raise awareness for the DD Foundation, Mr. Granatelli also suggested his name to be used for a special “ANDY GRANATELLI KNOWS DAVE DUSICK” t-shirt. The t-shirt will be worn by Mister Indy 500 and his entourage for this year’s Carb Day. A limited supply will also be available to the public. As with all I KNOW DAVE DUSICK t-shirts, the proceeds will go directly to the Dave Dusick Foundation.

The Limited Edition AGKDD tees can be purchased online for $20 at www.IKnowDaveDusick.com. Supporters are encouraged to wear the shirts to the Speedway on Carb Day, with one lucky person being selected for a meet & greet with Granatelli and Dusick.

The Dave Dusick Foundation is a not-for-profit entity dedicated to providing support to families that have a child who suffers from a life-threatening illness or disease. The successful ending to Dave’s story is a result of the staff and community of the Riley Hospital for Children. As the only comprehensive children’s hospital in Indiana, Riley Hospital for Children has spent 85 years caring for Indiana’s children. For this reason, the Dave Dusick Foundation currently donates all the proceeds from this project directly to the Riley Childrens Foundation.
